(((New Music Choices)))
I just wanted to share my musical choices with everyone out there. I've been sort of vacant from this website for quite some time, and nowadays I've just grown away from my musical stagnation, and stretched my liking of all sorts of rock music. I Have been listening to LOTS of music, but it just hasn't been Styx or Night Ranger (I've been very disappointed in NR to be quite honest...and the ShawBlades CD is YET to be released, so I've moved on a bit musically.) Not that I don't want to see new CD's being released by my favorite two artists, Tommy is ALWAYS very close to my heart, (almost like a brother, he's been in my family for so long.) lol So I am anxious a bit. But it's been soooo long to wait, and I'm not patient for new studio music. Styx is doing much better musically than Night Ranger is, because they play their new music at concerts. In the long haul, I want NEW STUDIO recorded music from them...not LIVE stuff on CD to get us to buy it! Styx does this all the time, and Night Ranger has done it, but I seem to like NR live stuff a bit more than Styx' live stuff...but I still prefer Studio Recordings over LIVE. I can see them live, which is what you expect to hear...but I like great sounding studio music much much better. So Jack & Tommy, get with a new Studio CD...either Damn Yankees, Shaw Blades, Styx or Night Ranger!!! We want new studio music, and please give up Live CD's as a lot of us are plum sick of them.
All I can say is, thank goodness for all these other brands of music that I've been latching on to. I know my info page has many different types listed, but this page will go into more detail and maybe song samples for people to check out. Some of it's older music that I've only just discovered...some of it's obsolete (where they will be hard to find or unheard of bands that need recognition for what they are coming out with later. Be sure to let them know that you heard about them from me first. lolol)
The first band I'll list is my very favorite band Breaking Benjamin. If you haven't listened to them, please give them a listen. Ben is a fantastic singer, and has even sang "Queen" on a tribute album. But I think his song was the only one I liked on that CD. "Who Wants To Live Forever", and he did a great job on it. His very deep tenor voice is almost mesmerizing. I absolutely cannot wait for anything new coming from this band. The three CD's that are out are called..."Saturate", "We Are Not Alone" & "Phobia." Give them a try, and don't let his yelling throw you, he calms right back down strangely enough. I love them! It's a type of alternative rock...hmmmm..... Believe me when I say, I love ALL of his songs! They are AAA+++!
Better Than Ezra is actually an older band from the mid 90's, and hail from New Orleans. But I discovered one of their songs on "RatRace" soundtrack, and I had to have all the songs they have! This singer, 'Kevin Griffin' has one of the prettiest voices I have ever heard on a band, extremely controlled. I'm hooked, and it's been very recent since I've become a fan. If you haven't heard of them, like a bunch of my friends, and myself included, please give them a listen as you will be amazed by his voice talent! He even sings the song "Juicy" that was used on Desperate Housewives. I thought instantly that he sounded sort of like Queen's Freddie doing his high voice on some of their songs. Nevertheless, the CD's are "Artifakt", "Delux", "Friction, Baby", "How Does Your Garden Grow", "Before The Robots" & "Closer". They also have a Greatest Hits album that has some of the best songs & a DVD, and also a "Live at the House of Blues" CD. So check them out if you feel the urge. He's a fantastic singer. I love them! I'd consider them alternative soft rock.
Colony is my next choice, but it's a bit more complicated than that. What happened is the band is broken up now. But the lead singer is still making music with a spin-off of Colony, called The System. The System is playing in clubs in LA, and actually have an EP, (with 5 new songs), that is available at those shows. Colony has two CD's out that you can get...and they have a song on the RatRace soundtrack. The song is called "Happy" and is my favorite song by them, but I like the ENTIRE CDs!! Don't get me wrong, I can certainly pick out my favorite songs, but his tunes are very catchy. Everyone that I've played these songs to loves his music. It's very appealing music, and well put together. Ted Bruner is the lead singer, and he's a very cool guy from St. Louis, MO. Since I'm from MO too, well, I'm a big fan! The two albums Colony has out, "Siren" & "Who I Wanted To Be". Please check some sound samples out. I love these guys too. I consider them alternative rock.
John-Mark is another one of my favorite singers. No the band doesn't have a CD out yet, but they are working on it. You should check this guy out, as his voice is very addictive! I've heard song samples, and full length songs, and he's gonna be one to hear this next year. If you can catch them live in CA you'd be doing yourself a favor. Look him up on the web and listen. This is alternative rock.
Default is one of my very favorites! Dallas' voice is as strong and powerful as you could ask for. Crisp and clean rock with almost a country sound, but not. He's awesome! If you mix up a disk, with their music on it, it's so refreshing to hear. Ear candy!!! The cd's are "Elocation", "The Fallout", & "One Thing Remains". They hail from Texas I believe, and have lots of talent!! Some of his songs are very beautiful too..."Count On Me", "All She Wrote", let me just put it this way...I haven't heard one that I didn't like! I consider them rock!
Godsmack is another one of my listens, and I really like Sully's stuff, but there are some I can't listen too. But he does rock, and he's on when he's on!! Originally, I found them playing The Prince of Persia PS2 video game, "I Stand Alone" being the favorite song from the game/CD. For me, the music is a little strong for constant listening, but mixed up with my other favorites, it's a great offset to some of the mellow stuff. :) The CD's are "Godsmack", "Faceless", "Awake", & "IV". I consider this ROCK.
Seether is a bit more mellow than Godsmack but I do like his voice a lot! He has some great songs...and has more control of his voice. Give him a listen. The two I have are "Karma & Effect" & "Disclaimer II", and they are both really good. There are some tracks that I really love on these CD's, "Cigarette" being one of them. Consider this ROCK.
Three Doors Down is another one of my favorites to mix, but I don't listen to All of the songs all of the time. But they are VERY GOOD, and when I'm in the mood for a certain voice I can't put my finger on, his is always the one...then I'll listen to the whole CD's. His voice is soft and relaxing...and softens your mood. The albums I have are "Away From The Sun", "The Better Life" & "Seventeen Days". They are worth any listen you would try. They are sort of alternative rock.
Nickelback is another one of my very favorites. They rock like a good rock band should. Chad's voice is amazingly easy to listen too and as most of the bands I like, you can understand what they are saying! lol! They have several albums out..."Curb", "Silver Side Up", "All The Right Reasons", "The State" & "The Long Road." Unfortunately 'Curb' is not included as a played CD, because I just don't like it! The others are great CD's tho, and those are why I love them. I don't suggest buying 'Curb' at all. But do give them a listen, they have a fantastic lead singer who is easy on the ears with his gravel-like voice. I consider them rock.
Hoobastank is another really great band. The lead singers voice is excellent...and both cd's are great all the way thru. I listen to all the songs, "Hoobastank" , "The Reason" & "Every Man For Himself" are the albums. Check them out! I consider them rock.
I just heard a song by Audioslave, and I must admit, it was quite catchy and a bit funky. I liked it a lot. The song was called "Original Fire" on the album Revelation. It will release on Sep. 5, so I'll have to pick it up then. I might get some other CD's by these guys too. It's a very cool song, and worth a listen.
Green Day is a hit and miss from me. I like a few of their songs, but not all. They have some good songs, and have been around for a long time. My favorite would be "Warning", for the most part, because I can listen to the whole CD without forwarding. lol. But there are a few other songs. "American Idiot", & "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" are a couple of those.
Sugarcult, Yellowcard, Something Corporate, & Bowling For Soup are all alternative rock, and some of their songs are great in a mixed CD in small quantities. They are pretty good bands, but I only listen to certain songs.
I'm not saying that my old music isn't great stuff. I'm just listening to different stuff now, and the new stuff makes it hard to listen to the old stuff I burned myself out on. I guess I listened to it too much. I still switch back and forth, but I'm sticking pretty much with these same bands. How I wish Damn Yankees would come back, and ShawBlades would come out with another one. I continue to wait, maybe sometime, it'll happen. In the meantime, these bands will keep me occupied. Give them a listen and a chance for maybe a couple of more listens, and if you don't like this stuff, well...who cares...I still do. lolol! But hopefully, you will like them, and maybe buy a couple of CD's.
